about

(Chant - Old Norse)

The ‘Futhark’ is the name given to the Nordic rune system. Named after the first ‘Aett’ of symbols: Fehu, Uruz, Thurs, Ansuz, Raido and Kenaz. “Rune” stems from the word for “mystery” or “secret”. The Norse god Othin hung from a tree pieced by his own spear, a sacrifice of himself to himself, over Ginnungagap to learn the secrets of the runes - and eventually he passed the knowledge onto man.
